What is counseling?
The short answer is, whatever you want it to be!
The longer answer is that counseling is not one single method or approach, but a plethora of methods all aiming to help the client cope or re-approach a difficult subject.
For some clients, counseling can mean exercises to be done between sessions, intensive sessions for any length of time and firm guidance and reinforcement of actions, while for other clients, it can just be to bounce their thoughts off somebody that does not know them but won't be shocked, who won't shy away and who will be with you, side by side, when you battle your demons.
It is a good idea to ponder what you think will help YOU the best. Maybe you have had to deal with something difficult in the past? What helped you the most? Did you have a friend you talked to? Did you write it in your journal? Did you get professional help, and if so, what did they do that worked?
Even if you have never been in such a situation before, you might feel that something would be more pleasant than another, and you can let me know your thoughts on that.
That way you can help me help you, and we can get off to a great start!
